Police hope the confirmed body count from the consumption of the tainted street drug ecstasy on Calgary stays at eight.
It’s been a few weeks since a death linked to the so-called “party drug” has been reported.
Police can only speculate as to why problems linked to that drug
have subsided.
They say the revelation that you can die if you consume illegal street drugs was probably the biggest wake-up call users and peddlers could ever have received.
Detective Doug Hudacin tells 660News it’s still around.
“Ecstasy, in and of itself, is a dangerous drug. It’s a pure synthetic, it’s made in clandestine labs,” say Hudacin.
He says the rash of ecstasy drug deaths did two things: it made users more aware of the dangers and it forced manufacturers to review the chemicals they use in their mix.
Hudacin says when it comes to drugs, you can never go wrong by just saying no.
