The University of Calgary is cutting enrolment by up to 500 students in an effort to balance the books.
The school announced it will also hike tuition by 1.45-per cent to match inflation which is the maximum allowed by law in Alberta.
The Calgary Herald reports the University has been carrying a $50-million dollar deficit over the past few years.
The moves will put it back in the black thanks in part to an increase to its base grant from the province.
