Driver survives dramatic crash

Police say a 31-year old driver is lucky to be alive, following a spectacular single vehicle crash.

Duty inspector Paul Stacey tells 660 News, the man lost control of his vehicle while trying to take the westbound exit onto Country Hills Boulevard from Northbound Deerfoot trial just after 2 a.m.

“The vehicle launched off the guard rail, went through a chain link fence, and there is about a 40 foot drop to get down to where the train tracks are.  He wound up down there, smashed into a wall before he got on the tracks and the vehicle rolled over on its side,” he says. “The driver was able to phone a friend to come pick him up and then the friend drove him to the hospital.”

Stacey says it appears the driver only suffered a broken collarbone.

Police suspect alcohol was a factor.
