Airdrie RCMP say a mother found murdered in her home was stabbed to death.
RCMP say it was first time they had been called to the home of Andrea Conroy.
The 33-year-old’s body was discovered last Friday.
Investigators say they have found no evidence she had been held hostage in the home before her murder.
Her ex-boyfriend, Rick Doucette, who was found dead in a hotel room in Nanton last Saturday, was the only suspect in Conroy’s murder.
Despite the recent events, Insp. Tony Hamori wants to assure people the city of 45,000 people is still a safe place to live.
He says domestic despite calls, like the one that led to the discovery of Conroy’s body, are on the rise, and that’s why police need the community’s help.
“This circumstance really highlights the volatility and the unpredictability of relationship violence. Police can’t act alone, which is very essential when signs become apparent, it is very important for neighbours, friends and family to intervene in some way,” said Hamori.
Hamori says the rise in calls could be due to a couple of factors: the steep growth in population, and that more people are reporting the problem, which in his eyes, is a good thing.
