The final push of the NHL’s regular season is underway, with the Calgary Flames three points back of San Jose for the 8th and final playoff spot.
While some fans are throwing in the towel in frustration, others will wait until it’s a mathematical impossibility before giving up.
We’re asking pundits how soon that might be!
No one has come up with a so-called ‘magic’ number yet, and whether that kind of talk comes up sooner than later depends on how the team does over the next 16 games.
Sportsnet Radio The Fan 960’s Dean Molberg says it may sound like a cliche but the team’s destiny is really in its own hands.
“This is the busiest month the Flames have every played in team history. They play 17 games in the month of March. On one hand, that’s great opportunity to make up ground and on the other hand, with injuries and everything, how are you going to have any steam left even if you do get in?” says Molberg.
Fans can worry about that as the Flames get back to busines visiting the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
