Calgary issues 72 hour parking ban on snow routes

Thousands of drivers will have to find another place to park their vehicle Tuesday, to allow crews to clear away snow.
The Calgary Parking Authority says offenders will be ticketed and towed.
The ban affects some 22,000 parking spots in the city.
Sean Somers with the Roads Department tells 660News it’s possible the ban could be lifted early depending on how quickly plows and sanders get around to tackling the job.
Monday’s blast of winter, which continued into Tuesday morning, not only complicated driving in and out of town, but also impacted electricity and airport operations.
Enmax crews had to deal with a few power outages, the biggest in the southeast where a crash toppled a power pole on 17th Avenue and 70th Street.
There is very little red on the board the airport, which is a big improvement from Monday night when a number of flights were cancelled because of the storm.
Parents in a number of towns north of Calgary have to get their children to class Tuesday, after the Chinook’s Edge school division along with Trochu and Three Hills announced school buses will remain parked.
The RCMP traffic unit in Innisfail is still urging caution to those planning a highway trek because of slippery driving conditions and blowing snow.
