The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has presented its 14th Annual Teddy Awards.
Each year the taxpayers lobby group honours what it deems wasteful government spenders.
The Provincial Teddy Award went to Alberta’s Standing Committee on Privilege, Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.
Scott Hennig with the CTF tells 660News the 21 members who sit on the committee have been paid $1,000 a month, yet their last meeting was back in 2008.
Hennig says the inaction of the committee has already cost taxpayers close to $1-million.
He’s calling on the premier to disband the committee, or at least only pay its members when they actually do something.
The City of Calgary and its $25-million Peace Bridge, which is 15 months behind schedule, was among the nominees for wasteful municipal spending, but didn’t win.
