Two separate avalanches in the BC back-country Friday afternoon has one person dead and three others in hospital.
The first avalanche took place in the Elk Valley area, BC and Coroner Barb McLintock says the group was in the mountains near Sparwood Friday afternoon.
“They have been caught in an avalanche. They had at least once injured that had been dug out at that point and one deceased,” said McLintock.
The three survivors are listed in stable condition and are in a Sparwood hospital and there’s no word on what the group was doing when the avalanche hit.
A snowslide also came down in Fernie.
Search and rescue crews there confirm one person was hurt but there is no word on their condition.
