Mercedes crashes through S.E. laundromat

A store clerk at a southeast laundromat had a scary encounter while at work Sunday afternoon.

While sitting at her desk, just before 4:00 p.m., a 2011 Mercedes crashed through the front of the business on 34th Avenue, dislodging her desk and hitting her in the stomach.

Duty Insp. Paul Stacey said thankfully the 52-year-old only suffered minor injuries and the cause of the crash was pretty simple.

“She thought she was pushing on the brake and not the gas pedal, but it was the other way around,” Stacey said.

Stacey said this type of crash is more common than people think; it’s usually the case when cars go through stores or businesses.

The laundromat did not sustain any structural damage.
