Deerfoot this summer will be a “summer breeze!”

Here’s a reason for commuters who use Deerfoot Trail to rejoice.

The orange cones, detours and lane closures will be a distant memory with no construction projects planned for the busy thoroughfare this coming summer.

It might be the first time since the province took over supervision of the busy highway that there’s been no summertime road work on the 50 kilometre route, according Alberta Transportation’s Trent Bancarz.

“That’s simply because a lot of things needed to be done,” Bancarz tells 660News. “Of course it all started with building the extension to the south.  That was the first major one.  And also adding a number of interchanges to make The Deerfoot fully free-flowing.”

“And then we did have to do resurfacing and paving work and of course bridge reanimation so it was just a matter of Deerfoot Trail being a very major route,” Bancarz continues, “not only for Calgary, but as part of the provincial highway network.”

Bancarz says there are currently two projects on the books that will affect Calgary drivers this summer:  the construction of Stony Trail, and the rehabilitation of the 16th Avenue bridge deck.
