Experts predict red-hot hiring climate for Calgary

Spring should be a good month for Calgarians as far as employment is concerned.
A new Manpower outlook survey shows 32% of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter between the months of April and June.
In addition to that, 68% plan to maintain their current staffing levels while 0% of businesses are unsure about their hiring intentions for the upcoming quarter.
CEO of the Alberta region Randy Upright says it’s positive news for job seekers and we have the oil sands to thank.
“I think right now we’re on a let’s get on with it, type attitude here in Alberta,” he says. “We recognize that we continue to develop several other customers.”
It also translates to a robust 2012 as Upright anticipates a stable and improved outlook for the rest of the year.
“I don’t think we’ve hit a boom but we’re well on our way, if all conditions remain equal heading back to 2007 and 2008,” he says.
According to Statistics Canada, unemployment levels have steadily been on the decline, falling to 5.2% in February.
Upright tells 660News it’s a 6 point increase from the outlook reported during the same time last year and he anticipates even bigger numbers in the third quarter.
“As we look at the price of oil and gas, not withstanding the world market rocking back and forth with various news clips, we continue to see a stable oil price and that’s helping us,” says Upright.
