Alberta Tory members raise concerns about election timing

Recent political controversies have produced a little soul searching within government ranks.
The Globe and Mail reports some Tory party members think pushing the spring election date back by a week or two could help their fortunes at the polls.
The thinking is the extra time could help the government distance itself from recent controversies ranging from allegations of intimidating physicians to unacceptable pay and perks for MLAs.
The rumoured election date is April 23rd.
Under a recently passed law, which was a promise made by Premier Alison Redford, an election has to be called between March 1st and May 31st, every four years, starting this year.
A political scientist at the University of Windsor, Cheryl Collier, tells 660News delaying the dropping of the writ would be a big mistake.
Collier says such a move could be viewed a political opportunism and voters don’t like that.
