Alderman concerned about secondary suite approach

A proposed program to create a one-permit approach for secondary suites in the city has at least one alderman worried.
Under the pilot project, suites will be inspected by the fire department for safety.
Gord Lowe is concerned the process will allow people to legalize suites in areas where they are currently not permitted.
He said if the owners of a suite fix the safety problems presented by the fire department, they could then come to City Hall and ask for re-zoning permits to make it legal, even if it’s in an area that’s only approved for single-family dwellings.
