Royals’ visit to cost half a million

Looks like the tab for the royal’s visit to Canada later this spring could cost taxpayers well more than $500,000.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are set to visit Canada in May to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

A spreadsheet of travel expenses for the trip suggests the cost the federal government roughly $508,000.

That number doesn’t take into account security costs, which during the last two royal tours cost about $1-million, according to The National Post.

National Defence, the RCMP, Health Canada and even Parks Canada are listed in the documents as departments that will have extra expenses to usher Charles and Camilla on their visit.

Charles’ son, Prince William and his wife, Catherine, visited Canada last year.

Will and Kate’s visit cost the federal government about $1.2-million.
