Sid the Kid back on the ice

After three months off, Sidney Crosby returns to the NHL Thursday night; suiting up for the Pittsburgh Penguins when they visit the New York Rangers.

However, some people wonder if it’s smart for Crosby to return this season after dealing with concussions and neck problems for over a year.

Already once this season, Sidney Crosby was cleared to return to the NHL, which lasted all of two weeks and eight games before being to the sidelined after a December 5th loss to the Bruins.

Without Crosby this season, the Penguins are 37-19-5, good for fourth in the Eastern Conference

The team is also riding a nine-game win streak.

If Crosby is healthy and can contribute like he has in the past, the Penguins might be the favourites to lift the Stanley Cup heading into the playoffs.

But if he takes another jarring hit and is sidelined again, the Penguins risk losing him for another full season, possibly even costing him his career.
