Calgary Child Advocacy Centre launches

Four government agencies are partnering up to launch the Calgary Child Advocacy Centre.
It will provide children and youth who have experienced abuse with the support and treatment they need.
The unique centre is the first of its kind, where Calgary and area Child and Family Services, Calgary Crown Prosecutors, Calgary Police and Alberta Health Services will work together to focus on prevention and treatment for child abuse.
The centre allows police officers, prosecutors and social workers to help the victims without jeopardizing the requirements of an effective investigation.
The facility is scheduled to open in the fall of this year.
Former NHL’er and Child Advocate, Sheldon Kennedy says this centre will be huge in tackling the issue of child abuse.
“Graham James wouldn’t be able to operate in the city without somebody blowing the whistle on him and I think that’d we’d be naive to think we can eliminate child abuse from society, but I think we can nip it in the bud so it doesn’t happen for generations,” said Kennedy.
