Crews extinguish grass fire near Airdrie

Firefighters are on the scene mopping up a large grass fire burning near Highway 567, and Range Road 291.

Twelve pieces of fire apparatus and 25 personnel were used to battle the blaze which callers to 660News claim was at least a couple hundred feet in both directions.

Fire departments from Airdrie, Crossfield, Irricana, and Balzac attended scene, and some local commercial equipment was also used.

Rockyview County Fire Chief Garth Rabel says no homes were damaged in the blaze and the cause is still unknown.

He says crews will remain on scene to make sure all hot spots are put-out so the blaze doesn’t re-ignite.

Rockyview County currently has a level two fire ban in place, which means no open-flame burning is allowed.
