Grant for restorative justice programs

A number of groups offering restorative justice programs has received a boost from the province.
The Calgary Herald reports the provincial government announced $351,000 in grant money that will go towards two Calgary chapters along with other groups in Innisfail, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Hobbema, Wetaskiwin, Fairview and Cold Lake.
Restorative justice is a way to help offenders accept responsibility for their actions, often through face-to-face meetings with victims.
The funding will go toward 11 organizations to help pay wages, training for volunteers and for facilities.
The John Howard Society received $40,000 for a youth restorative justice program and the Mennonite Central Committee received $25,000 for a program offered to teen court defendants who plead guilty.
