Calgary police go retro

What’s black and white and making a comeback? The traditional Calgary Police cruiser.
Inspector Ken Thrower tells the Calgary Sun that plans are in the works to return the entire police car fleet to black and white within eight years.
Thrower says one of the reasons for going retro is that “when people see a black and white car on TV…they know it’s a Police car.”
The return to the black and white cruisers is not a new phenomenon in Canada. The Ontario Provincial Police converted their fleet back to the colour scheme in 2007.
Several police forces in B.C. have followed suit and in 2011, the Edmonton Police Service began changing theirs over, too.
“In preparation for the demise of Ford’s Crown Victoria cop cars, Police are testing other brands and models of cars,” said Thrower.
Among those that will be tested are the Dodge Charger and the Ford Taurus.
