Wildrose MLA does about face on returning pay for committee that doesn’t meet

Calgary-Glenmore MLA Paul Hinman, a member of the Wildrose party, has done an about face on the issue of re-paying money he’s made for sitting on a provincial government committee that hasn’t met since 2008.
Saturday Hinman said: “Alberta taxpayers don’t owe me anything.”
The comment comes on the heels of Hinman saying on Friday that the remuneration system for MLA’s was stacked in favour of the governing party — in this case the Progressive Conservatives. Hinman noted that government MLA’s are allowed to sit on as many committees as they want and pad their salaries as a result. But he added for opposition members, those opportunities are limited.
Wildrose colleagues Heather Forsyth and Guy Boutilier have previously stated they are returning their committee payments.
