No St. Patricks’s Day checkstops

Drunk drivers had a little bit of the luck of the Irish this St. Paddy’s Day as no checkstops were set-up by police Saturday.

The Checkstop Bus is only available four days a week in Calgary due to man-power and funding; with the schedule laid-out well in advance, that didn’t include March 17th.

Despite no checkstops, officers were still pulling-over drunk drivers if they spotted them.

Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells the Calgary Sun a traffic unit was still working, there just “wasn’t a checkstop per se.”
