Calgary firms hit with temporary closures

A number of food-related businesses in Calgary have been forced to close temporarily for dodging their food handling permit payments.
The annual fee is mandatory for every establishment and ranges between $100 and $250 a year.
The Calgary Herald reports 20 local shops were issued closure notices by Alberta Health Services, including Papa Chocolat, Bernard Callebaut’s latest business venture.
A spokesperson for the chocolate maker says they sent a cheque after receiving a notice from AHS, but that they were ordered to close anyway.
The doors were only locked for about an hour before being reopened after the business made a payment by credit card.
