Northeast public school saved from the chopping block

Parents and students are breathing a sigh of relief that their northeast school is no longer slated for closure.
The Calgary Board of Education has decided to keep the doors open at Roland Michener Elementary in Marlborough Park.
The kindergarten through grade six school had been on the chopping block as the board looked at amalgamating the student body with another elementary and junior high school in the area.
Enrollment in the building is only 70 per cent of capacity.
Several community presentations were made to the board about the importance of keeping Roland Michener open.
In the end, trustees voted 5 to 2 against boarding up the school Tuesday night.
