Healthcare not improving despite huge funding increase – study

The spending of federal tax dollars on health care appears to need a check-up.

A study by the Fraser Institute shows Ottawa has transferred about $98-billion to provinces over the past 13 years, over and above the costs of inflation and population growth.

But it has had little effect on the quality of healthcare.

One example used in the report shows the time it takes to see a specialist has increased by 60-per cent since 1997 to a median wait of 19 weeks.

The National Post reports the Institute recommends allowing patients to pay for quicker access, and more private sector involvement as solutions to the problem.
