Snowmobile tragedy in Central Alberta

Tragedy in Central Alberta near Wainwright.

Three snowmobilers are dead after plunging off a six metre embankment and onto a road below.

RCMP say the snowmobilers lost track of where they were on Wednesday night.

Corporal Jerry Nutbrown tells 660News the sky was clear and the weather was not a factor.

“It was typical evening for this time of year,” he said. “We just think they got lost their bearings a bit because most of them were from the area. I think they just came upon the road a little quicker than what they were anticipating.”

Nutbrown adds, the impact is what caused the deaths and they don’t believe excess speed was a factor.

Two riders survived the fall.
