Calgary police are looking to crack down on web-based crime.
They’re considering bringing on a covert investigator whose sole focus would be online criminal activities.
The proposal is based on the success of the FBI’s Electronics Crimes Task Force which has been around since 1995.
Identity theft is the biggest concern for police after a recent Calgary case where about 50 identities were purchased online.
The Calgary Sun reports online investigations would be easier and faster if the proposed team gets the go-ahead.
