A new concept from a company out of Western Canada is catching on in downtown Calgary and making sidewalks safer.
Employees of Econopro recently came up with the idea of using steel shipping containers as sidewalk tunnels for construction sites.
They’re already in use along 11th Avenue at Macleod Trail.
The Calgary Herald reports Econopro can set up 400 feet of walkways in 10 hours, much quicker than the traditional wood and chicken-wire covers traditionally used.
The containers are also reusable, and more attractive with the ability to hang artwork, add bright lighting, and even cut out windows.
