Education and migration are the key phrases one top oil and gas executive is hoping to hear from political leaders heading into the April 23rd provincial election.
President of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada, Mark Selkeld, says the oilsands are facing a serious labour crunch and political parties need to offer programs to address the problem.
“Help develop, or encourage people to get into trades,” explains Selkeld. “Work with the educational institutions to help support them in developing professionals in the petroleum sector; petroleum engineering, those kind of programs.”
He says he also wants parties to focus on removing barriers that prevent skilled workers from migrating to Alberta.
He also would like to know how parties will support environmental technologies and the continued pursuit of more infrastructure like pipelines.
