Ian Tyson being honoured downtown

Internationally acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Tyson will be immortalized Wednesday in downtown Calgary.

The first verse of his song, “Land of Shining Mountains,” has been etched into some artwork on a Calgary Transit building at 7th Avenue and 9th Street southwest as a part of the 7th Avenue refurbishment program.

It will be officially unveiled 10:00 a.m. with Tyson, Alderman Druh Ferrell, and some of Calgary Transit’s top brass in attendance.

Tyson was born in Victoria, B.C., but owns a ranch south of Calgary.
