Dr. William Ciccotelli with 570’s Paul Johnson

Grand River Hospital has cancelled roughly 70 elective surgeries and endoscopies for today due to the closure of a laboratory. The lab was closed yesterday as a precaution after a sealed specimen container broke during disposal. This may have led to the contaminant becoming airborne in the laboratory. It stresses the contamination was confined to the lab and no patients were exposed. Around 60 staff members who may have been in contact with the contaminant are receiving preventative measures. No one has become ill and the hospital remains open to patients. Dr. William Ciccotelli – Medical Director of infectious diseases spoke with 570’s Paul Johnson.
