Convicted torturer Dustin Paxton is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, where a date will be set for preliminary arguments over declaring him a dangerous offender.

Paxton was found guilty of beating his former roommate repeatedly before dropping him in front of a hospital in Regina in April 2010.

The Crown is seeking to label Paxton a dangerous or long-term offender, while his lawyer says he plans to oppose the move declaring Paxton doesn’t meet the criteria for those titles.
