Enviropig consumption in question

Humans may not be eating pork from genetically engineered pigs anytime soon.
The Enviropig program at The University of Guelph was believed to have a good shot of producing the first ever genetically engineered pork approved for human consumption.
But now one of the program’s backers, “Ontario Pork,” has pulled its support, which puts approval in limbo according to The Calgary Herald.
Scientists have manipulated the animals DNA to reduce the amount of polluting phosphorus in the pigs’ feces.
The university says the plug on the program will be pulled if new sponsors can’t be found by June.
