Winter weather is back

While the weather has been very spring-like in our city lately, things are going to take a turn for the worse starting Wednesday afternoon.

With 10 centimetres of snow in the forecast starting Wednesday night, most of it will likely melt but it could make Thursday morning’s commute a bit slick.

660News meteorologist David Spence says you can never count out a storm like this in April.

“Wednesday wont be a problem, I think Wednesday, especially in the morning it will be fine and it will be dry still. Wednesday night I think the roads will be mainly wet.  It’s Thursday morning that’s of main concern because the snow will be accumulating Wednesday night and we could get 10 maybe 12 cms of snow on the ground and that’s going to mess things up for Thursday morning,” he says.

Up to 25 centimetres of snow are expected in a few areas around Calgary including the Foothills and Red Deer by Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada says the storm will also produce strong northerly winds which will combine with the falling snow to produce near zero visibility at times on the highways.
