City fielding complaints about election signs

Calgary’s bylaw boss says complaints about illegally placed election campaign signs are starting to come in.
Bill Bruce tells 660News that the so-called sign wars will likely increase as we draw closer to the April 23rd provincial vote.
“Typically that does happen,” says Bruce. “That would be characteristic of most elections as it starts to heat up more into the campaign. The last two weeks you’ll start to see more of a push to get the name recognition out there. So, yes, definitely we’ll see more of that. But again, most of the candidates we’re finding are being pretty good.”
So what should you do if you think a campaign sign is placed somewhere where it shouldn’t be?
“If you’re unhappy with a sign, you can phone in and place a complaint,” says Bruce. “If it’s placed on your private property without your permission, you can remove it. But otherwise you have to leave them alone. If there’s a problem with the placement, the city will take care of it.”
Bruce says if a problem is identified, the offender’s campaign office will be given 24 hours notice to rectify the situation, or the sign will be removed for them and they’ll be hit with a fine.
