Friday was a holiday for many Albertans, but not for most of the candidates competing to be their next premier.
Liberal leader Raj Sherman announced his party would boost funding for ESL programs.
Speaking in front of Lester B. Pearson High School, Sherman said the funding would unburden social services and teachers, and help immigrants and the children of immigrants achieve their full potential.
Wildrose leader Danielle Smith was downtown at the Fountains of Mission seniors’ residence before heading to Vulcan to visit the Starship.
The NDP’s Brian Mason was campaigning in Edmonton and released an open letter to Albertans about the emerging threat of what he calls, “American-style two-tier health care,” being introduced in the election.
The Alberta Party continued its focus on rural communities by announcing it would expand the Rural Alberta Development Fund past its 2014 expiry date.
Tory leader Alison Redford took the day off.
