From Calgary’s Drop-in Centre for the homeless to a stage off-Broadway in New York, it is what you call a good news story.
It’s the story of the Drop-in Centre’s DI Singers who will put on a three-day show at the New York Musical Theatre Festival. They’ll be performing oratorio Requiem For A Lost Girl this coming July.
The show is the creation of Onalea Gilbertson who tells the Calgary Herald that “the play is intended to be food for the soul to help the homeless heal.”
The Executive Director of the New York Musical Theatre Foundation adds that the timing of the play is appropriate timing. Isaac Hurwitz says a piece about the homeless is a novel idea given the economic recession of the last few years.
