Poll suggests support for Wildrose and Tories equally divided

The latest poll leading up to the April 23rd Alberta election shows the Wildrose party has the backing of 36 per cent, compared to the PC’s 34 per cent, virtually a dead heat.

Ian Large with Leger Marketing, which conducted the poll for the Calgary Herald, tells 660News, support for the Wildrose is down a little, but it appears the party is garnering more favour among undecided voters which is running at 20 per cent.

Large says their poll also gauged voter reaction to the various policy platforms that have been rolled out so far during the campaign.

He says a majority of voters applaud Tory proposals to improve health care and education, which would boost spending to build and renovate schools while expanding family care clinics in the province.

So-called “Danielle Dollars,” the Wildrose proposal to share energy wealth with Albertans when the government is in a surplus position, only received the support of 47 per cent of people.

Albertans also support initiatives to eliminate school fees, a proposal that is being floated by the Wildrose, Liberals and NDP.

Large says Thursday’s televised leaders’ debate could really influence the outcome of the vote and he’s looking forward to taking the pulse of the electorate when the cameras are turned off.
