Alberta fails test for electoral finance laws

Alberta has received an “F” grade for its electoral finance laws.

The non-partisan organization, The Foundation for Democratic Advancement, also handed out failing grades to B.C., Saskatchewan, and P.E.I.

The FDA found problems like high caps on contributions, no expenditure limits, public subsidies which favour large, established parties and, no regulation of third party expenditure.

Quebec and Manitoba received “A+s” for their contribution laws, while the other provinces landed somewhere between “B+” and “D.”
