Budding Calgary scientists strut their stuff

The annual Calgary Youth Science Fair has moved from Stampede Park to the Oval at the University of Calgary.
2012 also marks a significant milestone for the science showcase.
Spokesperson Susan Michaud tells 660News, 50 years ago no one could have imagined the extent the show has grown.
“It’s important because it provides students in Calgary and area a chance to showcase their science knowledge, their curiosity, their innovation, their creativity,” says Michaud. “The stuff you see down here ranges from the Grade 5 student, who’s just excited about science, to the Grade 12 student doing university level research.”
Michaud is encouraging Calgarians to stop by the Oval this weekend to check out the various displays.
“On Saturday, it’s free of charge,” she says. “We start at 9 o’clock and we go till noon. And then at noon we have our awards ceremony.” (We) “have some really interesting activities inter-active activities for the public to take part in.”
Michaud says volunteers deserve a lot of credit for the success of the youth science fairs over the years, pointing out that close to 500 people come out every year to judge the entries.
Participants in the science fair will have their projects judged on Friday. Admission is free for the general public on Saturday.
