Alberta’s political makeup prior to election 2012

When the writ was dropped on March 26th the PCs held a massive majority in the legislature.

Of the 83 MLAs, 66 were from the Tory party, the Wildrose had four members, the Liberals had eight, the NDP had three MLAs and the Alberta party had one.

There was also one vacant seat.

The Wildrose Party has never elected a member in a general election.

Wildrose candidate, Paul Hinman, in Calgary – Glenmore was elected in a by-election, while the other three MLAs crossed over after leaving the PC party.

The lone Alberta Party MLA was Dave Taylor who was elected a Liberal but crossed the floor. He’s not running in this election.
