Some students at the University of Calgary are confident their campaign efforts spurred students to the polls Monday.
The “Get Out The Vote” campaign gave students information on why, how and when to vote in the provincial election.
The U of C’s Students’ Union spent much of the weekend texting, emailing and calling more than 5,000 classmates who pledged to vote, to remind them to cast their ballot.
The Vice President of the Students’ Union, Matt McMillan says he’s confident the campaign efforts paid off.
“I think it paid off in great dividends. We’ve gotten verbal commitments on the record in debates and in print from every party leader improving the situation of post-secondary, as well as having action plans how to get there. I haven’t seen that before and the plans are worked out to a way they make sense,” he says.
More than 10,000 students from the U of C, University of Alberta and University of Lethbridge pledged to vote as part of the campaign.
