Northeast robbery turns into long pursuit

One man is facing a number of charges after a shoplifting incident turned into a long pursuit in the northeast tonight.
Shortly after 8p.m. police were called to the Totem store on Edmonton Trail.
When police arrived they were told the manager of the store was assaulted when trying to stop a man and woman from shoplifting and both suspects then escaped in a vehicle.
Duty Inspector Keith Cain tells 660News, police were able to locate the vehicle soon after.
“It refused to stop for us, we didn’t pursue it, but our helicopter was able to get an eye on the vehicle and we followed it to the North Hill Mall where a man was subsequently taken into custody,” he says.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
