Canada’s modest medal hopes at the Olympics

The 2012 Olympic Games in London, England begin on July 27th and Canada has modest goals.

The Canadian Olympic Committee wants us to finish 12th in the medal standings.

That prediction comes from Luciano Barra, an Italian Olympic expert who was CEO of the 2006 winter games in Turin.

Barra has calculated that Canada will win 18 medals this summer which will tie our country with bitter rivals Kazakhstan.

At the last summer games, Canada amassed three golds, nine silvers and six bronze medals for a total of 18.

We have some strong medal possibilities, women’s boxing makes it debut and Mary Spencer is a three-time world boxing champion.

Rower Adam Van Koeverden has a shot at gold in the 1000 metre.

Paula Finlay is the top-ranked woman in triathlon.

USA Today is predicting Canada will finish 11th with 20 medals.
