Geeks unite in Cowtown for Comic Con

It’s one of the largest events of its kind in Canada; nearly 50,000 sci-fi fanatics are expected to descend on the BMO Centre for the 2012 Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo.

Hotel rooms have been booked for weeks, leaving some facilities sold out for the entire weekend.

This Mecca for mythology beams into Stampede Park Friday afternoon and will continue until Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

It includes everything from autograph sessions and meet and greets, to movie screenings at the Plaza Theatre.

Some of the A-list talent that has signed on to make appearances include Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff, Fringe and Lord of the Rings star John Noble and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.

But the premiere event of the weekend is expected to be the rare public appearance of the entire cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

TNG aired for seven seasons and has run longer than any other series.

It’s the first time in over 20 years all nine main actors on the show will gather at a convention.

Panel discussions are free with paid admission but seating is on a first come, first served basis.

BMO Centre will also be chalk full of exhibitors offering apparel that screams all things comic and science fiction.

The original Batman, Adam West, will also be on hand for events and fans of the original show will get a chance to sit in the Batmobile.
