According to some new statistics, it might not be wise for NHL teams to let their players wear black.
The research assessed penalties in 52,000 games from 1984 through 2012 and found a significant discrepancy in penalties based on the colour of jersey.
Breaking down almost a million penalty minutes, researchers learned that teams wearing black got penalized about ten per cent more.
In fact, in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the two most penalized teams were the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
