The federal government has made its third wave of notifications, telling another 38-hundred civil servants their jobs are on the line.
Parks Canada is taking the biggest hit in the latest wave of federal job cuts. More than one-thousand employees have found out their jobs are on the line.
Workers at Human Resources and Skills Development, Transport Canada and Correctional Services are also in danger of losing their jobs.
Not all of the workers will find themselves summarily unemployed though, since many will be able to apply for open positions elsewhere in government or be given the option to retire.
The president of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees says while cuts are being made in the name of savings, Transport Canada executives are getting bonuses worth three million dollars.
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair says he’s worried the cuts will result in Canada going back into recession.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada says its members are aware that since the Conservatives have a majority government, there is little they can do to actually stop the cuts.
Some people will be able to apply for other government jobs, or take a retirement package.
