The clock is ticking and if you haven’t filed your income taxes yet, the mad scramble is on!
Some estimates indicate nearly half of Canadians had not yet filed as of Monday morning.
We talked to those in the midst of a crowd of ‘last minute’ filers in the city’s northeast to find out why.
We found someone with a good reason:
“I’m new to the country so I didn’t really know much about it,” says one woman, who just moved here from Egypt.
One man says he waits until April 30th every year, on principle:
“If it went to the right places all the time, instead of luxurious trips for our politicians and such, people wouldn’t mind as much,” he said.
He got his taxes done by noon hour on the last day.
Tax accountants are hopping busy with people sneaking away from work to beat the deadline.
