Alberta politicians prepare to return to work

Premier Alison Redford will hold her first meeting with her caucus following the Tory party’s majority election victory back on Monday, April 23rd.
Later Wednesday afternoon, Redford is expected to introduce her cabinet which will likely include a mix of old and fresh faces.
It’s also anticipated Redford will announce when the legislature will kickoff its second spring sitting.
The long-awaited report of Alberta MLA pay and perks will also be tabled on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, retired Supreme Court of Canada Justice Jack Major was charged with reviewing the financial compensation of Alberta politicians.
There was a public outcry when it was revealed a number of MLA’s were being paid $1,000 a month to sit on a committee that hadn’t met in more than three years.
During the election campaign, Premier Redford stated she would accept the recommendations that Mr. Major puts forward.
Meanwhile, the leader of the official opposition, Danielle Smith with the Wildrose, says one of the first things she would like to see addressed is the growing rift between urbanites and rural dwellers.
Earlier this week, the 38 rookies that were elected to the legislature were schooled by recently retired legislative speaker Ken Kowalski on everything from decorum to pay.
