After a record setting weekend for the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, beer replaces super heroes Saturday and Sunday.
The annual Calgary International Beerfest has moved to the bigger confines of the BMO Centre, and organizers are hoping their show is just as popular as last weekend’s extravaganza on the Stampede grounds.
Beerfest spokesman Mark Kondrat tells 660News, the hundreds of brews they will have for sampling tend to draw the connoiseur to the show.
“We’ve sort of drawn an older audience, I would say,” according to Kondrat. “A lot of people aren’t drinking a lot of beer so they want to be drinking a good beer. So it’s a good opportunity for them to come and see different beers as far as what they like for lagers or ales.”
“There’ll be 200 different beers from different breweries,” Kondraft continues. “Every type of variety of beer will be showcased. If someone likes say Indian pale ales, there will probably be about 15 different Indian pale ales.”
And it’s not just the big and international breweries that will be featured this weekend.
“A lot of people don’t realize that there are 13 breweries, craft breweries, within Alberta,” adds Kondrat. “So we’re actually lucky enough to be showcasing 12 of those.”
Thirty restaurants are also participating in Beerfest as, like wine, the different varieties of beer will be matched with food. In fact, there’s a seminar about beer and food matching as well as cooking with beer.
Tickets are available on-line at www.calgarybeerfest.com, and you can also buy them at the door but those tickets are limited.
