Emergency Preparedness week kicks off

It’s Emergency Preparedness Week and the city wants to remind you to always have your 72-hour kit ready.
Acting Deputy Chief of Emergency Management, Greg Salecki tells 660News the city does their annual hazard identification to make sure Calgary is ready for every “worst case scenario.”
“That ranges from anything that’s natural or accidental. The natural ones that of course are the big ones would be the flooding that we could potentially see around the city and some other weather related events,” he says.
In some cases it can take up to three days for emergency responders to reach you during a disaster.
Salecki adds in the case of an emergency it’s important for families to have an action plan and a 72-hour kit with enough food, water, medication, warm clothing and comfort items.
